Change of plans

A blue chick grows up to be a blue hen or rooster.
A black chick grows up to be a black hen or rooster.

Usually if you have both blacks and blues, you can sort them out reliably at any age after hatching.

Dark blues can be confusing, as chicks and as adults, because they are almost black but not quite. But blacks do not turn out to be light blues, and light blues do not turn out to be blacks.
Thank you ma'am! This is very accurate since my birds do produce a nice dark blue, sometimes it's hard to tell when they are tiny.

Had my annual safety meeting at work today (boring!) Anyway, out of the last chicks, I kept 1 chocolate orp pullet (yes all by herself) she is 5 weeks old today (I sold her last 2 brothers 2 weeks ago) She lives in the grow out coop, with her own 6x8 enclosed area with hidey holes so she can mosey about. I spend quite a bit of time with her, she's almost like a puppy, comes when I call her, she'll sit on my leg and preen herself, get on my arm and I take her out to the grassy chicken yard to chill, just a very sweet little girl (I decided her name was Lilith) I put an auto door on the little grow out coop and check every night to make sure she is in bed, well tonight she wasn't...❤️

Things are going so smoothly, dahlia and her littles are doing their thing in the flock, Lilith fits in almost effortlessly (the 2 teens give her a little crap, but nothing crazy) and the other 9 littles seem happy as can be in the grow out pen (I haven't opened the hidey holes yet cuz of the rain and wind, probably next week) I love it when everything is easy breezy 💖

What do y'all think? Will the 2 week olds be ok in these freak temps with their momma heating pad?
