Yeah. She would get close to the hardware cloth divider and kind act like she wanted to mother them but I found her on the other side slinging one around. :barnie
I have two more troughs coming and she is in the old brooder I built for now and unable to leave it as I put the wire top on it.
So the last rosecomb hatched Sunday night. The others, five rosecomb and one Dusty was left. Two of the five rosecomb quit I would guess at draw down and the other three after the internal pip. The Dusty egg quit before or during draw down.
Also lost a silkie chick. I think Dr Girl friend may...
The OEGB eggs are here! They had a really rough journey tho. On one side of the box two corners were crumpled and damp. Got the box open and packing was good. Auction was for a dozen and they sent eight extras. This was a good thing because after getting the second packing open three of the eggs...
Yeah I think after they got on the paper towels over the shavings it helped alot.
The first year that any of the visiting coons took advantage of my birds. Or actually worked at getting in my pens. Had to add more screws to the outside brooder as a blue cream silkie babie went missing as well...
That stress is what I've had for the last two weeks. And the other night there was a opossum trying to dig into my big over built first pen. The roots from the Ash tree the pen is under kept it out but now theres a cinder on tge partial hole. It was not a healthy specam either. There was skin...
Today is hatch day on those eggs! Only seven rosecomb eggs to go on hatching. One of the Dusty eggs left to go. I may have a cull in the hatched rosecombs as it seams it cant use its legs very well or at all.
So you know that silver chick I had in the Easter hatch? I've gotten two more just...
Power was back up at 8pm ish. Hatcher only got down to 97, the incubators that were on day 1 and day 2 where down to 88. I had 3 towls on the Hatcher. Lost one of the brood momas babies to drowning, had to move an outdoor brooder baby to the garage for warmth. The garage holds heat pretty well...
The incubator is so full of fluff!
I had to help a Brahma out. It piped and half zipped right under the fan so when it was resting the membrane got dried out and it was stuck. Warm water and peeled some shell away and it pushed out in my hand.
Going to have to move some out of the incubator...
So Zilla the angry cochin that leavs her kids for others to look after lost broody privileges. All eggs from Dustys pen are in the incubators. One hatched just hrs after I put it in the lockdown incubator! Also have like 3 silkies hatched.
I do the ones from the three hens that are co-parenting. I was already planing on keeping one of the males to replace the silver phoenix male I lost. I'll have to see if we get one that has blue in the make up. I'm going to pull all the Phoenix hen eggs from the box today and set them aside to...
Not sure how I'm going to replace Dusty. There are some blue golden duckwing OEGB on eBay I might have to pick up.
Also looking for someone to build me some pens as well.
