Great article! It popped up on the home page exactly at a time when we are talking about raising our own. Very informative & simple to follow instructions. Thank you!
I have raised meal worms and black soldier flies and the later are even easier. This is a good review of how to raise either but you do not have to buy the black soldier flies , they will voluntarily find the bin . They also do not have the other stages to deal with or separate as the flies just fly away after laying their eggs. The black waste from the flies is great fertilizer also.
Just something else to think about to feed to your chickens, guineas or fish.
Very well written, with a nice portion of humor. Many details and a fool proven recipe to create your own meal-worm farm. Thank you very much for writing this up.
I used this article to set up my mealworm colony. I still have them all together and they are reproducing rapidly. My chickens are really enjoying them. It was very easy to follow his instructions. The picture says it all about why I love this article. This is just one corner of my aquarium.
I tried raising meal worms a couple of years ago using three bins to separate the different worm stages as recommmended by the article I followed. Didnt last long as it was cumbersome and took more time than I was willing to spend.
This article fives me the confidence and alternative one container method that I am confident will work for me. Thank you, and my girls thank you too.
