fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Just checked, Martha's in the box with the chicks. I guess LC isn't ready to roost, yet.

In time.
Yes, all in time.

She was testing the waters, but not all is ready. She'll try again soon I'm sure. During the day the chicks may start "playing" on the roosts too. I've always found that so adorable, they get on roosting bars acting like little big shots, but when it starts to get dark or cooler, they hurry right back to the security and warmth of Mama ❤️

I think even LC is a boy...

:hit:he:confused:

I lay awake about 4:30, thinking about the eggs, but mainly about LC. I went outside about 5:30 to check on him, and he seemed relatively alert, still in the box.

Martha's other four appear fine, too. The black chick decided to stretch as I took a photo.

Martha's face has gotten redder, maybe she's getting ready to "wean" this bunch?

Egg-citing!

I got 12 eggs from a private breeder, but there's no way Tamar can cover all of them.

Enter incubator!

It's a freebie I got through Amaz0n, for the price of a review. It's currently warming up, sitting on my desk in the family/living room. I have tried to somewhat protect it from my cat Debbie.

Tentative plans:
1. Eggs will sit large side up until 5pm today, 24 hours after arriving and being settled on the kitchen table.
2. The 6 cleanest eggs will go in the incubator
3. The other 6 will be slipped under Tamar after dark

I've not used an incubator before, so after reading a lot of posts here I have decided to try a dry hatch, adding water to raise the humidity upon lockdown. I don't have distilled water, but I do have a gravity water filter, can use some of its water.

Weeeee!
