Oh goodness, I do that to myself a lot! 🤭 Without the incubators running, it's quiet enough in my room to hear birds and squirrels chirping outside. I always have to sit there and listen like, holy-moly, how are there chicks peeping right now??
Oh my goodness! :th Bad mama!!
I think I've heard that as well, that they have some kind of game in their background or something 🤔 Don't quote me on that!
The Sebright hens I had were feisty little bitties for sure! Some even crowed regularly :th
As far as what's up in my neck of the...
Haha, yeah, the chickens like to make sure I have plenty to do in a day, it seems 😅
Yay on the little ones that made it! Sorry to hear about the quitters, but it sounds like you got quite a few babies in total from that hatch anyway. :jumpy
Wow, I wouldn't have expected her to attack other...
Y'all, I got 5 eggs from Buck's pen last night. :th There were three eggs out there this afternoon, too. There was definitely an egg thief coming through the floor!!
Since Delphine's eggs were still clear when I candled yesterday, I set two of the Buck eggs from yesterday and the three eggs...
Oh, goodness! It looks like it's been sweeping chimneys or something 🤭
Oof, that sounds rough! Glad you got so many extras! Hopefully you get a good hatch from them :fl
:hugs Hope that that gets things solid and predator proof for you. Man, a lot of hungry critters showed up in your neighborhood lately! :rant
Cuties!! :love Glad the little ones with leg issues are starting to get their legs under them better! I've noticed sometimes that mine will have minor...
I've had a wild past day, let me tell y'all. :rant
First of all, yesterday we decided that, after weeks of no change in her condition and then a sudden worsening of how she looked for several days, that it was time to let go of Mavis. She'd been droopy and sort of penguin walking with no...
Yay, babies! :jumpy Any pictures of the little ones yet? Hope the hatch has gone smoothly!
That silver baby was such a cutie, congrats on more of them! :love
Very nice! Thanks for checking back in with that! 🙂
Ah, man. Sorry to hear about the drowning and the quitters. :hugs I think the day 1 and 2 eggs should be all right having only gotten to 88 for a few hours. I don't see you losing too many just from that, anyway. :fl
Fingers crossed for lots of little Rosecombs and those Dusty babies in the...
Delphine's eggs don't appear to be developing. 🙁 I'm hoping it's because the other hens kept bugging her and booting her off her nest to lay eggs in there and not because Buck has decided not to breed the girls anymore or something. I've set her up with a cage around her nest now and will check...
All moved outside! ...Yeah, they were long overdue at 6 weeks of age. Between all the rain we've been having and everything else I've got going on, it just took me a bit to get the opportunity to set them up. We're currently all moving as a unit as we get accustomed to our new...
Not chicken-related, but relevant to other posts I've made here.
I've just submitted my acceptance of the offer of admission to go back to college. I got in!! 🥳
They're all starting to get active now, learning how to eat and drink from the older bitties. Oh my goodness, these little weensy tinies bobbling around among the week-olds is way too cute 🥰
Hard to believe that they were just as tiny only a week ago :th
Also, yes, we have poo everywhere...
These are Buck's babies, Judy's nieces and nephews. Hopefully mostly nieces. 🤭
Ah, I have one kind of like that as well! She's also lost her broody privileges. She's broody right now and her butt went straight to jail. :rant
Congrats on the babies so far!! :fl for lots of Dusty's babies...
Ooh, exciting! :pop
Brassy back is an interesting one. I've seen like three different explanations for their phenotype and I'm not sure which is correct. 🤔 So that one might be tough to nail down.
How are your eggs looking? Any early birds? I've got one little bitty Blue Buck baby out as of...
:fl on getting a little one with blue dilution in the mix!
White legs are dominant to slate, so shouldn't be too hard to get rid of. Once it's gone, you know it's gone at least. It's those recessive genes that can hide sometimes and haunt you later on. Good luck, I'm really rooting for you on...
Yeah, that's a tough one. Easter-eggers are such a crap shoot if you're looking for any specific genetics. Old English could certainly work, you'll just have to be careful about getting recessives like single comb and white eggs out of your line.
Did you get any chicks from Dusty before now or...
