I whole heartedly approve of the Light Brahma. I adore Pema, my husband's pick again (Victoria the Dorking was his first). Oh and a Dorking trio! How exciting!
I've never had Cochins, since we have such a small flock we have to focus more on eggs, but we love our snuggly Buff Orp and Light...
So apparently I haven't been on here in a few months. I haven't been getting email alerts from BYC so I just assumed the thread had died down, nope lol! Congrats to everyone who got chicks this fall. Very sorry to hear about losses of both new and old birds.
Thickchick- wow I love that set...
Yes they are. Unlike other hatcheries Meyer calls their blue-green egg layer mutts Easter Eggers and only call their true Ameraucanas by name. Much less confusing and deceiving.
I have seen quite a few that look like her with the black head some clean faced and some bearded (from other hatcheries too), but more common are the gold and brown and the orange with black. I know several folks on here that have between 3-6 EEs and they can tell them apart easily. A few have...
Yes. Clara, my EE is part of the first group we got as chicks in April of 2014. We just got 3 this March.
She lays a bluish green egg that varies a bit:
Clara and one of her eggs her first week of laying. She's a clean faced Easter Egger and was our first pullet to lay at 20 weeks...
That will be a pretty group. I think the speckled and laced look nice together and the silver lace looks striking against black.
To KD I love our Buff Orp and Easter Egger. I was planning on getting an Australorp next spring, but we won't be getting any more chickens for a long time :(
I am...

Do not spray them, but spraying the roof of the coop and/or run/pen am the area around it is helpful. Keep their water cool, they are more likely to drink it if its cold. Offer frozen treats, I put peas...
Perhaps. Our four hens are almost 17 months old, first annual molt starts around 16-18 months old.

Our 25 week old Light Brahma named Pema, from Meyer Hatchery. I love her shape and size and a her sweet personality. I think she started laying this week but haven't caught her in the act. I've gotten 4 small peach pullet eggs four days in a row, but they could be from our White Rock Snow who...
Handsome boy newmarch! Our Light Brahma pullet is 23 and a half weeks old and two days ago she was making a fuss in the coop, I checked on her and she was trying to share a nest box with two of the hens when there was an empty nest at the end of course. Our girls never share and were quite...
Wow those are great deals.
Lots of masculine looking birds, some are hard to say but for the Buff Orp I would say roo.
So Pema our Light Brahma pullet seemed a bit confused about nest box etiquette yesterday. I found her trying to share a nest box with Victoria the Dorking hen, then Baby...
Golden Duckwing isn't a breed just a color that is found in several breeds including game birds ;)
And oops just realized its Gold Duckwing not golden.
His leg color looks greenish grey, that may help narrowing down the breed, of course he might be a mix or he legs might not be "properly"...
I would call the Animal Warden, ours was very helpful, or call the city and ask to speak to someone in zoning. Do you already own chickens or are you planning to start raising them?
Congrats! How old is she? We have three pullet's this year, 22 weeks old, the White Rock started laying last week, cutest little eggs. I'm guessing I have another month at least for our Light Brahma.
