    McMurray Priority Loading

I ordered chicks from McMurray last week, they were shipped Monday and did not arrive to my post office until THURSDAY. Half were dead and the rest looked very bad. When I called McMurray they credited me for the full order and I chose to have the order reshipped this week with the Priority...

    Welp Hatchery (Privett?)

Just a quick review of my experience with Welp. I ordered 45 Naked Neck chicks, 25 straight run (all that were available), 10 males, and 10 females. They were shipped on Wednesday and arrived here to me in Georgia on Friday morning. The shipping info said New Mexico so they must have been...

    White dots under skin

I am culling my dual purpose flock because of coryza and MG/MS and one chicken had these tiny white dots under her skin. They weren’t attached and seemed to be spread around her whole body. I stopped processing at that point and threw the body in the trash and cleaned everything. Has anyone...

    What breed/sex do I have?

I got these for from the Assorted Unsexed duck bin at TSC a week ago. Any ideas what they are? I looked at the Hoover’s ID page and they look like female Golden 300s to me but I figured I can’t be that lucky! They are enjoying some outside time near my mixed flock since the weather is nice.

    Broomstick method for ducks?

I have a couple drakes to cull and I’m wondering how best to do the deed. I use the broomstick method on any chickens I cull but I read somewhere that it doesn’t work well for ducks because their legs are different. Does anyone have any experience with the broomstick method for ducks?

    Broody Leghorn

I have a broody leghorn! She’s from Hoovers Hatchery stock, hatched last spring. Here she is on her practice eggs. We gave her 6 real eggs and they are due to hatch May 26th. A couple of times she’s gone back to the wrong nest after leaving to eat but she’s tolerating me placing her back on the...

ISO Partridge Plymouth Rock hatching eggs

Does anyone have any partridge rock eggs? Preferably near Georgia, I’d like to pick up the eggs myself rather than trust USPS these days.

    Rooster dethroned

How long will a new top rooster continue to bully the recently dethroned top rooster? My former top rooster, Clarence, was dethroned yesterday by his son, Big Cheese. All afternoon and all day today, Big Cheese has been chasing Clarence around if he dares to come out of his (large) corner of...

    Black Copper Maran?

Is this rooster a Black Copper Maran? I know yellow legs are a fault according to standard but he does have a few little feathers on his legs and with this coloring I don’t know what else he could be. He was in a Fry Pan Bargain assortment from Meyer Hatchery.

    What are we?

I got these in a mixed bin at a feed store. I think the grey one is a splash Jersey Giant hen maybe? She’s pretty large anyway. The rooster is a complete mystery and I’m curious if anyone has an idea about him.

Is this just frostbite or something else?

The dark tips of his comb look like frostbite to me but what about the whitish part? It looks like blisters but I’m not sure. Searching for blisters I came up with Fowl Pox but it doesn’t quite match.

    Bumble foot and molting

I got two hens from a neighbor, they are currently in quarantine, and one has bumble foot on both feet. I’d like to start treating her feet but she has so many feathers growing in that it’s painful for her to be held. How long does it take for the new feathers to grow in and is it a big deal to...

    First White Leghorn egg!!

Today is about the 20 week mark and we got our first white egg! One of our 3 leghorn pullets was in the nest today after showing zero interest up til now and she laid her first egg! I was concerned with the waning daylight that she and her sisters might not lay til spring. Yay! (I don’t know...
