Hey, geese people -
Is there a way to tell how old my geese are? They were found wandering in the woods, so I have no idea. They seem young to me for some reason - esp my gander. He isn't mean at all, even when the girls are nesting. He'll hiss, but that's it. I feel like he hasn't figured...
Hookbill Jill is pushing 10 years old, according to her former owner. He rehomed her after she ended up an only duck and started to make too much noise for the neighborhood (as chronicled here). She's only been with me a few months.
She's been doing great! She made fast friends with my other 5...
Really quick background:
Poppy, 4.5 year old Orpington, is paralyzed for unknown reasons. I've been treating her since late November, as documented in this thread. All other indicators are normal: appetite, energy level, poop, etc. I was putting her in a separate area of the run during the day...
I picked up one of these for stupidly cheap:
It's 5.5 ft x 4 ft (that's not counting the silly fence). I plan to convert it into a goose house and write a coop article, too. I currently have 3 geese.
Here's the plan:
Add a floor
Ditch the little fence thing, the birdhouse, the play sink...
I ended up with three lovely geese, two of whom were found wandering in the woods (the third is a gander who bonded with the females while at the shelter).
They're wonderful! They are in my goat pasture, and they sleep in the barn with the goats at night. Everything seems to be going ok so far...
Long story as short as possible:
Poppy, 4.5 yo Orpington, has been losing weight and getting weak gradually since she went broody back in spring. I've tried: worming, antibiotics, vitamin b complex. Crop is functioning, empty in the morning, but not always full at night. Poop is pretty normal...
Hi, goose folks!
A local rescue group found a couple of stray geese. They tried to find their owners for a while now, but no luck. So they are up for adoption.
I am very interested in taking these two females. Here's a pic. The pic shows three, so I'm not 100% which two are up for adoption...
Myrtle lost her eye to infection as a tiny chick. We've been having non-stop storms these past couple of weeks, and she got her floofy head a lil wet. I was drying her off (and giving her a *much-needed* beak trim) this afternoon when I noticed that her eye socket has gotten a lil crusty. I'll...
4 yo Plymouth Rock going through a particularly nasty molt. Fed all flock with oyster on the side. No other issues other than looking like she's been put through the spin cycle.
Wormed last month. Treated whole flock with Corid (severe outbreak protocol) after another pullet had definite...
Hyacinth (Orpington, 1 yr old) is going through a gawd awful molt. She is acting like she feels crappy (which is normal during a molt). Looks like she's been chewed on...
But this poop had me a lil concerned.
Is it just the effects of a hard molt, or should I look for more?
Edited to add...
Hi, everybody!
I just got back from 2 weeks on vacation. My adult sons were house sitting. They did a good job taking care of my 2 flocks. They even took my small flock out for daily walks and swim time.
I got back yesterday, and my Call duck, Cheddar, is being extra super aggressive. She's...
On vacay in lovely Scotland. We were walking along the Western coast (in the rain, of course) and we hear this funny noise. And I see these cute little black and white ducks. My pics are terrible so I snagged this from the interwebs:
And here is the adorable sound they make...
I woke up this morning to find a weird scene:
My SUV car door open. Handle is 3 1/2 feet up.
The contents of the trunk strewn about the car
The goat feed I store in there all over
The bucket I keep my goat feed in about 50ft away from the car with the lid ripped off and puncture marks...
Called the sheriff, but I have no idea how long THAT will take nor how long it's been stuck. It's still alive, from what I can tell.
Wondering if hubs and I should go try to free it ourselves???
