    Broodies side-by-side?

I'm having exactly the same experience, except mine are not sitting on any eggs. They're in side-by-side nesting boxes. I was surprised to see them brooding at this age. It's only their first season and they've only just started laying.

    2 Broody Brand New Layers

Hi all, I have a small mixed flock that were all purchased as chicks in February, and they all started laying around the end of July - the beginning of August. The 2 white Cochins are both already broody and have been for the last 3 weeks. First, it was just one, but soon after, the other...

Chick with tumor or bubble sack in front of wing?

I've read about those, and it could be a cyst. A bacterial or fungal infection could cause it, but I'm sure one of the experts can weigh in.

    Lavender Orpington rooster crosses

Thank you so much for this! I'm fascinated by genetics, and this gives me a starting point.

    Lavender Orpington rooster crosses

Hi all, I ended up with 4 roosters from the Lavender Orpington bin at TSC and one of them is just such a sweet boy I'm thinking of keeping him. I have a mixed flock and I'm curious if anyone has any experience with crossing a LO rooster with any of the following: - white cochin - black cochin...

    Lavender Orpington Sexing

I got some better pictures of Chonk and Lola, who is looking more and more like a Larry. Sadly, all 4 will need to be rehomed.

    Lavender Orpington Sexing

Thanks to each of you for your input. I'm in the process of rehoming the 2 that I'm certain about. I'll give Lola/Larry and Chonk a bit more time.

    Lavender Orpington Sexing

The head's down one is the single bird in the photos at the top of the post, but I can get more if it helps.

    Lavender Orpington Sexing

The one on the back right, standing up, is the one I thought was a pullet. The head's down one is the one in question, and it's sounding like he's a dude. I've never had this much trouble figuring it out at this age, but the shredding is affecting how pointed their feathers are. So, I'm left...

    Well, that's a bummer.

    Lavender Orpington Sexing

Hi, all! I've posted about Chonk in another forum, tracking the growth of my farm store LOs from McMurray Hatchery. I wasn't initially going to get LOs (because of the shredder gene) but these poor babies looked so pitiful and stressed (one had splay leg, one had pasty butt) that I just had to...

Chonky Boy (?) the Lavender Orpington Chick

These dudes are the poster boys for Meyer Hatchery's LO stock. I bought them in bad shape at the feed store, which I don't blame them for necessarily. On the other hand, the shredding...if anyone is thinking of getting their chicks from Meyer, this is what you get.

Chonky Boy (?) the Lavender Orpington Chick

9-week update. Here's Stormy, Steve, and Chonky Boy. Lola Belle is very clearly a pullet and she even snuggles next to one of my EEs on the roosting bars at night while these 3 dudes hang out on the opposite end. So, now I have 3 cockerels I must rehome as Stormy and Steve challenge each other...

North Texas: 3 Lavender Orpington Cockerels

Hi all, I have 3 lavender orpington cockerels that are 8 weeks. From the straight-run bin at TSC, and unfortunately, they're each too good at roostering already. Not crowing yet, but terrorizing my existing flock, trying to battle out who will be the head of the flock. Neither of them mind being...
