You should most definitely not spray your yard with permethrin. Wear boots/shoes if you're keeping livestock.

It looks more like gout to me or an infection. If you search for gout in chickens feet with google there is an images option which may help you decide what problem is most likely.

They look like game birds or game bird crosses to me. I don't know what breed. In general game birds have a more upright posture than the more common domesticated chicken.
