I literally got what my siblings wanted. I started my flock with 2 Rhode Island Red, an Australorp, I think another Australorp but with a ring of gold neck feathers, some kind of blue egg laying EE, a Sapphire Splash, and a Plymouth Barred Rock.
I gave away the Sapphire, and my aunt gave me...
It could be both. I had a runt that did well for about 1 month, then she got sick, and in a day or two she died. She was a meat bird though, and in my experience meat birds are more likely to die young, and a runt like that might just turn out to be a weird smaller than normal bird.
Her other wing is fine. She doesn’t look like she’s in pain, so maybe it was dislocated somehow. She is otherwise acting normal, but I recently had to patch the coop after a raccoon reached in and killed her older sister. So I might know what happened to her, but I’m not sure if it’s a problem...
go for the high end on machine, low end on the hygrometer. my hygrometer always says 98.5 in the corner, and my incubator says 101 in the middle. I run slightly hot, and my eggs in the middle three rows hatch on day 19 or 20, while the eggs on the edge hatch on 21 or 22.
try to find out what...
I think, genetically speaking, it would be better to breed parent/ child pairs. that is because the baby would have DNA from its moms parents and its dads parents, instead of having DNA from the same grandparents twice.
