I have had a double yolked egg laid by my quail. (It was larger than the rest.) I have another large one that i have put under my broody silkie bantam and will look forward to see if it/they hatch.:):jumpy:jumpy
Thank you Perris for the super article on feeding . I feel I can choose so much more variety in giving my poultry healthy meals alongside their free ranging .:)
Hi that is a good idea . I have 12 Quail and they are super little birds to look after, and lay lots of eggs . They are kept under cover and as draught free as possible. Staying in Ayrshire.
Yup my hens take a step out see the rain and do a u-turn and quickly come back inside. lol. The Silkies get really wet so I keep them mostly in (the others fair better). Here is hoping for dry weather and lots of dust baths for the chooks,
I found the same problem , I give my Quail (and hens) oats and corn as treats. I only have a few so often use the frozen and packets from the stores with my groceries.
Thank you for this information I only have a few hens which provide me with just enough eggs for my family, so do not need to market my own, however it is good to keep up with current news on these issues.
Good information. I have trouble keeping the water from freezing in the coop so may try the heating method. Also like the tip on making the perch wide enough for their toes to stay covered by feathers.:)
Very informative, and enjoyable to read. I was very interested in the different breeds, I love the ice cream bar chicken name. I have an auracana (she hatched out of a blue egg), so looking forward to see what happens when she starts laying. I also have two polish which she looks after by...
Very informative. I feel more confident in feeding my small flock of chickens such a varied diet, along with their free range outings in the garden. I also like the fact I can purchase a lot of ingredients from my store for this, rather than be confined entirely to commercial feed.
We have seagulls coming into garden areas around here so will keep a careful watch. I let my 3 hens out into a small fenced garden and watch that they are away from other birds, otherwise they are in their covered run. I hope this AI will clear with a good plan.
